Ogawa Smart Sento Review - Part 2

Even though we were blown away with the offers given, i personally was a bit reluctant to grab it..

Reason mainly --

1) NO trusted customer reviews yet in the Net...

2) Dontknow whats the durability issues longterm. ESPECIALLY the known peeling of the 'leather' surfaces of the chair...
...not to mention doubtful (?bad) aftersales services which was discussed inthe forums.

3) Definitely not as nice looking as the Osim or Gintell ones.. looks bulky a bit

But given the fact that my wife Really loves this model...so ive decided to give it a go and buy it -- as her bday present as well.

It came with 3 parts, making it easier to get thru our main house door. The installation only takes around 10-15 mins.

u really need to have space to put this chair bcause on recline the length is 1.9metres... width is about 84cm. Lucky weve already measured our space before buying it.

2colors are available..red and dark brown. We chose the latter as itll mask pen marks more effectively.

Above -- the Zero G position.

It Features heated airbags which are cozy.

There are multiple massage modes as well, included are the Chinese Japanese and Thai massage modes.
The intensity can also be changed for elderly, adult and young age groups.

Below :  it uses 300W of electricity...with an on and off switch at the back.

The controller looks typical of any new Ogawa chair (i think so)

basically you can control most of the things including the intensity and strength of the massage/airbags.

Timer is either 5/10/15/20 & 30 mins

The 4 different positions... including the upside down

3 different massage modes , Thai including body stretching/Chinese/Japanese

And also 3diferent preset massage mode ie. Morning /midday / night before sleeping

What i love Best is the ability of this chair to concentrate on the diferent body areas namely shoulder /waist/full body and legs/thighs- airbags

During the first day 1used it for nearly 2hrs in total ...until my body aches!
...not to mention dozed off twice during the massage.... which is excellent.

Personally i think our current purchase is Worth it, as this chair is enjoyed by the whole family, including my kids.... But if youre going for a massage chair you DEFINITELY NEED TO TEST IT FIRST....plus the budget lah haha

Bcoz your preference is definitely different than ours..

Preferably test it head to head for comparison... another brand that we didnt test before making our decision was Gintell which i think more or less is equally good...

however again the high end and more function ones will definitely costs more.
Your Money Your Choice.

Will update you all again if theres any problems/ etc with the massage chair.

  2. Very good review!

I received my smart sento last night. Before I went ahead with the purchase I looked at gintel, osim and another one that I can't remember the name of.
I chose ogawa because the back massage was in my opinion better than the rest. Plus it had 2 yrs warranty. I just wish the foot massage was better. The gintel foot massage is very good but not rm20k good! . For me and my wife, the ogawa's foot massage is like a torture machine. I have tried it on the lowest setting, even on elderly mode but it still crushes my foot.

How is it on your machine?

As for price, I paid rm8,800 which included an ioniser and I paid an extra rm100 for a separate foot massager which on its own would have cost rm600

  3. Yup bro lacmac... its the same in ours.

My wife really hated the foot rollers, bcoz it really hurts. But the good thing is after the massage the foot bcomes lighter ;)

But definitely other massaging functions i think this machine is among the cosiest ones !

  4. And another one more (?bad) thing is the machine wouldnt go up to its original position after massage, so you can sleep there for hours ...other chairs go back up to its original position so surely youll be awake by then

  9. You feet become light because they are crushed?
    Lol.

Your right, it's strange that it does not go back to the original position after the massage has completed. I sat there for a few moments waiting for it to go back.

What do you think about the neck massage? The one that feels like 2 robotic fingers. if you pushed your head back I'm sure it could crush your skill. I tried to hold them apart with my hands, to check if they were pressure sensitive, nope. I couldn't stop them closing.
You would have thought it would be able to feel your head/neck and apply just enough pressure depending on the persons size.

I now have my feet half in/out.
the foot rollers only do the instep on your foot. You really want the heel and near the toes massaged.

I noticed that the area inside your elbow gets pushed up against the armrest, quit painful and I didn't notice this on the demo chair at the shop. And the chair seems a lot noisier compared to the shop, but then again it could be masked by the shops background noise.
I'm going to go back to the shop and compare.

What problem do you have with yours?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Haha EXACTLY same wif mine !

    1) noise level higher than inthe shop... but then again the shop got background music... cant compare...
..again can compare the noise w other chairs. I never owned one before so dificult to say about the noise..(maybe dats wwhy some chairs got built in music)

    2) i love the neck massage BUT need to put on the headrest first... i tried removing the headrest cushion and the feel was VERY strong

Yup tbe intensity not much diferent no matter what the setting is .

Yup the elbow a bit stuck and painful on certain position..but ive got no complaint as ive got some chronic elbow pain problem ...soo sedap lah haha

  11. My problem was diferent....

After using the chair for one week, the leg airbags refused to be inflated despite setting max intensity...
and the other airbags also felt significantly weak ..almost second to non
and theres increase noise coming from below...

Lodged a report to ogawa yesterday but was told since this is a new product they need to send an engineer to fix it and NOT the usual technicians...
furthermore they CANT PROMISE WHEN the engineer will come... WTH ??!

But managed to find the answer myself

    1. I looked in the brochure, it doesn't mention anything about your head being massaged, only goes up to your neck. So I'm not sure if the auto scanning has a problem.
I'm in ipoh and the shop had no music, but the doors were open.Anuway I'll go and try in a few days.

That's terrible customer service. One of the reasons I chose ogawa over osim was the fact that osim had terrible customer service.

How do you fix the problem? Just in case it happens to mine as I've only had it for 2 days.

    2. Apparently the rubber wire that supplies the airbag (below the leg compartment ) tercabut...

And the air is coming out of it, making the other airbags reduced function as well.

The rubber wire looks like its been longitudinally cut about 1cm... ???? Surprising as its only one week old.

My solution is just to put a cellotape around the cut segment and connect back the wire and now it works back as usual..

Still waiting for the engineer to come...to replace the wire ...and at the same time assess how eficient is the customer svc / waiting time.

      sooo frustrating :(

    3. Lucky it was an easy temporary repair for you.

Doesn't say much for ogawa if they don't have available technicians for their latest model.

Fingers crossed we don't have any more problems.

The instruction manual isn't very informative. More information found on the brochure.

    4. Yup also hope that no more problems after this...

They said an ENGINEER shud come and inspect...as this is a new product
Not sure when theyll come ...sounds not many of them, compared frm the number of technicians :(

  12. Hi, did you eventually get a technician out? I complained and one came out within a week. Said he was from KL.
He told me the arms were not fitted correctly, arm rest airbags were not filling evenly and one shoulder side airbag hose was trapped.

So they exchanged the entire chair one week later. I've yet to try as I'm out station just now. But I'd say customer service is very good. Well at least here in Ipoh it is.

Alas, I was told nothing can be done about the bone crushing feet massage.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yup managed to get it done.... now ok already but atill got the tight shoulder feeling... and the noise still loud. I suspect the wires are hitting the chair body causing the vibrations.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sorry tight elbow feeling. How yours after the new chair exchange? ...and how u feel about the massage...and is the loud sound still there??

    1. We have had 2 complete chair exchanges and waiting for the 3rd exchange.

They did fix the loud noise coming from the shoulder airbag. Seemingly it was a kinked hose. But some of the other airbags, namely the hand ones were not inflating fully.

The reason for the latest exchange is the massage rollers do not feel as good as the other chairs we had, it's hard to describe but it felt like the rollers did not come together down your spine properly.

At least customer service is good, technicians come out within a week. Although we have been waiting a month for this chair to be replaced.

I hope this is the last of our problems.

How about your chair? Everything OK now?

I had an idea, why don't the come up with a chair where they can update the software, similar to updating your phone. for example they could add even more types of massage and add other settings.

    2. Haha Lacmac.... u can get that type of settings with Osim.... but top end ones lah, nearly 17k each

  15. Hello again,3 weeks ago we received our 4th replacement. It was tested by the delivery guys and only lasted 2 mins, pcb board failed.

Today we received our 5th replacement and for the 5th time they had to take it back. This time the shoulder air bag did not inflate. Also some damage to the plastic side cover.

Although customer service is good in that they do replace the chair. Quality control is terrible, the chairs do not get tested fully before being sent to the customer.

I think if the next chair has problems I'm going to ask for a refund

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wahhhh... 5th replacement??

At least its good for you...

Diferent with mine...the technician just hush out if theres problem...just simply say that the vibrating problem cannot be fixed one (sounds familiar...)

Weve got 1 more complaint after that...one sided airbag didnt inflate properly..but it was fixed with an exchange to the inflator module.

As for the vibrating sound its still there.... but weve found out the problem as the sound came from the remote wires vibrating against the internal side wall of the chair..so if u tarik the controller then the sounds much less

  17. Hi. How is your massage chair now? Especially the leather. We are considering Ogawa but having second thoughts now...

  19. Hi hwei, chair is fine,no more problems. I believe at the time I got mine they were having a lot of changes with staff and especially technicians. So perhaps this was why QC was not so good.
As I said before, customer service was very good and make sure you tested properly when it arrives at your house, not just for a few seconds. Do at least 2 full 15min programs.

    Good luck.

  21. I bought mine 1 1/2 yr ago. The left foot roller not working. Make a report to the shop where I bought it. He said within 2 week the mechanic will call. I live in Negeri sembilan. my receipt and warranty card missing. The shop I bought could not trace the sale.
